At Creative Scholars we believe in the power of children’s voices and ideas. Our curriculum is project-based and focused on the children’s interests and questions. An underlying principle is that children represent their ideas in many different ways which include the visual arts. The studio is a space that allows children and teachers to work in small groups on these representations. It is also a space that invites the exploration of new art tools and materials. At Creative Scholars, children are taught how to use materials such as water colors, clay, wire, wood, fabrics, and more! The studio holds a collection of found materials, those materials such as old buttons, lids, and more that others might look at as trash, but the children look at as opportunities to create. Children are invited to use these materials as they create their own individual art.
This space also hosts our community library and an invitation to gather and sit. Here families can read stories or talk if they need a bit of time before transitioning to and from school. Families are also invited to borrow books so that children can share their favorite stories with those at home!
